“Queen Elizabeth II Spring Bulbs”

The first half of 2022 was filled with celebrations as Queen Elizabeth II reached the Platinum Jubilee milestone of her reign.  More recently we have mourned her passing, whilst recognising she was the longest-reigning monarch in British history, devoting herself to a life of service to our country.

To commemorate the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II, every household in Nowton is offered a gift of 70 mixed spring bulbs to plant this autumn in her memory.

Ideally, these bulbs are planted in the next few weeks, in an area visible to all, such as the front of your house. This will fill the village with nearly 4,000 flowers coming up every Springtime.

The bulbs are mixed varieties of narcissus, tete-a-tete, scilla, muscari, snowdrops and crocuses, providing an annual show of colour from February through to May.

However, not every house may wish to undertake this planting, so all unclaimed bulbs will be planted in our common areas, such as road verges, around the village sign, the bus shelter, the village hall, and Low Green junction / High Green. Perhaps combine supplies with your neighbours and plant together, creating larger groups in areas suitable for all to enjoy.
